TaxScouts

The client
TaxScouts is the most convenient way of having your personal income tax prepared online by certified accountants at the cost of using an online tax preparation tool. Backed by world-class angel investors, the company was founded by early employees and alumni of leading European startups such as TransferWise, Skype and MarketInvoice.

The challenge
After successfully working on TaxScouts’ first funding announcement in 2018, they reignited our partnership to promote their second funding round. The announcement was to go live before the deadline for the self-assessment submissions, at the end of January 2019.

Our solution
CEW worked with TaxScouts to set goals for the project and create the right story and angle that worked across the press. We refined the company’s message for this specific announcement through a kick-off discussion. We also liaised with investors to get comments for the press release and, to add to the story, used statistics related to self-assessment submissions on the previous year.

We worked on a press release that was complemented by a media pack and chose to work on a strategy to pitch the announcement as an exclusive to TechCrunch. After the news was live at TC, we distributed the press release widely to journalists covering Accountancy, Business, SME, Finance, Tax and Tech across national and trade media.

Results
CEW secured an exclusive at TechCrunch. Following that, we secured coverage at Unquote, AccountingWEB, EU Startups and others, totalling 38 pieces overall.

The timing of the release - close to the deadline for Self-Assessment Tax Returns - was also instrumental to get TaxScouts in front of its target audience, building momentum for its brand.

Tailwise

The client
Tailwise is a platform that matches dog buyers with trusted and safe dog breeders. Launched in 2017, the company received early-stage investment from angels and the Jenson SEIS and EIS Fund 2017/18 in April 2018. The company provides users with a much safer and more joyful experience when looking for a dog, vetting breeders, ensuring puppies are healthy and giving future owners a ‘No Puppy Farm’ guarantee.

The challenge
Tailwise wanted to get their name out and raise its profile as a company that is against puppy farming. They wanted to get exposure ahead of a debate in Parliament to discuss Lucy’s Law, a campaign aimed at banning the sale of puppies by pet shops and commercial third-party dealers.

Our solution
CEW organised a workshop with the founders to refine the company’s history and messaging. We decided to introduce Tailwise to the media by sharing the company’s funding announcement and to position the founders as thought leaders when it came to animal welfare.

We crafted the company’s story and worked on a press release that was complemented by media materials such as bios, case studies, investor quotes and a press kit.

Our approach was to pitch selected publications with an embargo and then distribute the press release widely to journalists covering Tech, Business, SME, Pets & Animal Welfare (including the Lucy’s Law debate) across national and trade media.

In parallel, we also accompanied the debate around Lucy’s Law in Parliament and helped the CEO to craft a comment reacting to the discussion that was later shared with journalists covering the issue.

Results
We secured coverage in top-tier media in the UK in regional, national, consumer and tech press, with The Evening Standard, Sunday Mirror (print and online editions), The Next Web and UK Tech News as the main highlights.

Following the announcement, CEW secured coverage at BDaily, Just Entrepreneurs, The London TechWatch, and others,  totalling 18 pieces of online coverage.

BBC Radio London reached out to the founders days after the press release was picked up by the media. The CEO participated in the Barking Hour and was interviewed about puppy farming and responsible dog breeding.

CEW also assisted the founders in building initial relationships with journalists covering the company’s main areas of interest.

ParkBee

The client
ParkBee aims to eliminate parking stress by opening up unused private parking spaces at businesses, apartment complexes, hotels, supermarkets etc. It does so by installing smart technology at these locations and making the parking spaces available via the Parkmobile and Park-line apps.

The challenge
Founded in The Netherlands, ParkBee wanted to announce its entrance in the UK market with a funding announcement aimed at scaling the business here. The announcement was to go live in both countries at the same time.

Our solution
We started our partnership with ParkBee by having a session to refine their messaging for the funding announcement. CEW also took the lead in coordinating the strategy with the company’s agency in The Netherlands so the announcement was made simultaneously in both countries.

We liaised with investors and partners to get quotes for the press release and prepared media materials to go along with it.

Our approach was to pitch an exclusive to TechCrunch and then distribute the press release widely to media covering Business, SME, Investment, Property, Real Estate, Tech and Smart Cities across national and trade publications.

In parallel, we also pitched reactive comments from the co-founders and opinion pieces authored by them to be published after the announcement was live.

Results
We secured an exclusive at TechCrunch, that was followed by coverage in top tech publications such as BDaily, EU Startups, Fortune, and UKTN. In total, we managed to get 46 pieces of online coverage.

On the day of the announcement we also liaised with the press on behalf of the ParkBee team, responding to requests for further information from journalists.

What the client said
“As a tech startup in London, it’s often difficult to find the right communications agency to understand the needs of a small business and what it takes to scale it up, so we are lucky to have found a partner in CEW Communications. The team's knowledge about the startup scene is fantastic, and they were able to build the best approach for ParkBee. CEW delivered on every objective for the campaign and helped us create a great PR buzz within the relevant channels. We look forward to collaborating with them in the future and take ParkBee to the next level!”

Five Seasons Ventures

The client
Five Seasons Ventures is a venture capital firm for Food and Agriculture technology startups across Europe. The fund focuses on early-stage companies developing technological innovations aimed at solving the key challenges the sector currently faces, from healthier food, to shorter supply chains, to quantified and personalised nutrition, to alternative proteins.

The challenge
Five Seasons Ventures wanted to establish itself amongst the European tech community as a new fund dedicated to investing into Agriculture and Food Technology based businesses. The two Founders had both been a part of the London investment and food-tech world for some time and were relocating to Paris. The team wanted to announce the fund simultaneously in the UK, France and Italy.

Our solution
CEW worked alongside the Five Seasons team to create a press release which was then translated into French and Italian. We approached a handful of targets in advance of the embargo lifting, organising interviews and drafting responses on the client’s behalf where appropriate.

Our targets focussed on key tech and business press with international reach, AgriTech trade publications, and specific titles in Italy, France and Spain.

Results
CEW secured coverage in top tier media in the UK, France and Italy. Securing TechCrunch, Bloomberg, Tech.EU and AgFunder News, among others, for the morning of the announcement ahead of a wider distribution of the press release.

Throughout the day and in the following days, we secured coverage at Fortune, Pitchbook, UK Tech News, and Unquote among many others. In total there were 70+ pieces of online coverage and an appearance on French radio. Coverage was achieved internationally in English, and in Italy, France, Germany, Romania, Sweden, Spain and Brazil.

CEW also assisted the founders in building initial relationships with journalists covering the company’s main areas of interest.

What the client said
“The PR launch of our new fund was a success. We got great visibility in the three key markets we wanted to hit. CEW assisted us from the design and crafting of the announcement and translations, to the organisation of the calls with the key journalists and the follow up activities weeks after the main event. A big reveal can be a stressful moment, but we felt in good hands and all went very smoothly for us.”
